GEORGE INGHAM

During the 1960's George started working for Mott Electric as an Estimator. He specialized in quoting BC Hydro substations. Dan Mott said "He was really good at what he did as he won most of them." George worked for Mott Electric for approximately four years. During his last two years at Mott Electric he secured a space upstairs in the Mott Electric building and started estimating Mechanical Contracts after hours. George became quite a successful mechanical estimator that he started his own company, United Power Ltd., in 1967.

George was always looking for the next technology that would change the world. Some ideas didn't pan out and others were quite successful. George tried to start a movement of converting gasoline cars to natural gas including gas stations.

In 1983 United Power Ltd. started in renewable energy, specifically Photovoltaic (Solar) energy. George became a leader in this field. He even co-authored the first solar training manual - A Photovoltaic Revolution: Power for the World. This manual was used to train thousands of electricians from the IBEW. In 2000, George helped form the National Photovoltaic Construction Partnership that went on to successfully supply and install over 500 photovoltaic systems across North America.

George was always a vocal advocate of trades training and worked tirelessly with IBEW, NECA, and NJATC to develop the apprenticeship programs. He has been a solid participant in many aspects of the electrical industry and served on many boards, committees and industry groups, such as: ECA, VRCA, JATC and more. Furthermore, George was a contributor in the creation of the "Seismic Restraint Standards" Manual by the ECA.

George Ingham's accomplishments while managing United Power Ltd. are continually benefitting our communities. United Power Ltd. is now operated by Ken Baxter and his son Bryce Baxter who are continuing the work George started.
